Who’s that new girl at the Guardian?

I can finally let one of my big cats out of the bag – as today the first of my columns for The Guardian was published. ‘Austerity Bites’ is a comment piece on the impact of welfare reform, and will be featured on the Society pages of The Guardian, both in the newspaper and online.

Hoorah! Job! Regular income! Regular readers probably won’t be surprised; after Patrick Butler’s excellent profile piece, that bean burger video and a few comment pieces, I had a lot of messages from people asking when i’d be getting my own column! I laughed them off, but here we are – the girl with four and a half GCSEs writing for a national newspaper.

The first will be blogged here later, but in the meantime it’s available to read here: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/sep/18/jack-monroe-starve-benefits-england

I hope you all wish me well on my new adventure – i’ll still be blogging here, at Great British Chefs, and on The Huffington Post, as well as occasionally cropping up in the Indy Voices section of The Independent, no doubt…

(And apologies for brevity, I’m typing with one hand after an accident in the kitchen late last night left me with burns to my right… Normal service will resume shortly!)
